It's that time of the year again! The JEE Main 2017 has come and gone. Enter JEE Main 2018, the details of which will be officially notified from the month of November 2017 onwards. Many speculations have been made about the JEE Main 2018 exam pattern but, till date, no official announcement has been made about any changes from the existing JEE Main exam pattern. However, there is a high possibility of change. This is evident from the Finance Minister's announcement earlier this year that a National Testing Service will be formulated to replace CBSE in conducting the aptitude test.

JEE Main 2018 Exam Pattern

  1. JEE Main 2018 will be conducted in two papers, i.e., Paper 1 for engineering courses (B. E. /B. Tech) and Paper 2 for architecture courses (B. Arch. /B. Planning.).
  2. Students can opt for either Paper 1 or Paper 2 or both as per their preferred programs.
  3. Paper 1 will consist of total 90 objective type questions from Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics.
  4. Paper 2 will consist of total 82 questions from Mathematics, Aptitude Test and Drawing Test. Each section will contain different amount of questions.

JEE Main 2018 Eligibility

In 2017, the AADHAR Card being made mandatory was the only change to the JEE Main eligibility criteria. This year, provision will be given for students from J&K, Meghalaya and Assam where they will be required to enter their Ration Card No., Passport No., Bank Account No., or any other Government ID No. provided they select the exam centre in these states only.

What about the JEE Main 2018 difficulty level?

The difficulty level of the JEE Main 2018 is liable to be upgraded to the level of the JEE Advanced or near to it. The paper will be designed in such a way that the scientific aptitude of the student is tested in subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Maths. Then, seats will be allotted accordingly based on the ranks of the students.

How many times can the JEE Main 2018 be given?

If and when the National Testing Service takes over the conducting of the aptitude test, there is a possibility that the JEE Main 2018 will be conducted twice in a year. An approximate figure of 4 lakh candidates will be selected to appear in the JEE Main 2018 depending on their score.

So what do we have so far?

  1. As per the new format, NTS may conduct the JEE Main at least three times a year. This decision will be of advantage to the students as they will not have to wait for the entire year to appear in the test again.
  2. Educational Experts have welcomed the proposal stating that several global screening tests are conducted multiple times in a year. Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and TOEFL are some of the examples.
  3. In case a candidate is not able to clear the JEE Main on the first attempt then he/she will get the opportunity to appear in next scheduled exam that same year. Additionally, he/she would also have the opportunity to appear in the same for multiple times.

All these, however, are not set in stone. We await the official announcements from the concerned authorities. Meanwhile, as you start your JEE Main preparations, MissionExam is here to help you get a move on.
